The Gift of Mobility – That is what Master Builders Association’s Rampathon is all about. Since 1993, MBAKS has been organizing volunteers to build ramps for our neighbors throughout King and Snohomish counties at no cost to the recipients. LDC, Inc. has been a part of this effort for the last 7 years and a total of 11 ramps! As a company, our core value is “Service Above the Standard” and this includes giving back to the communities where we live and work.
After a two-year hiatus due to COVID restrictions, LDC was excited to be back! This year’s team consisted of 17 volunteers who gave their time and talents to build two ramps in Kent, Washington. LDC provided the design and construction, and materials were again donated by Dunn Lumber and the MBA.
Each of our recipients was dependent on others to move in and out of their homes. Our first ramp was for a gentleman who uses a wheelchair for mobility and had no way of getting in and out of his home without a family member carrying him. The ramp LDC built will give him the freedom to enter and exit his home independently. Our second ramp was for an elderly woman who has a difficult time using the stairs to access her backyard. She loves to garden and care for her flowers; the ramp will allow her to move about her backyard freely and gives the rest of her family the peace of mind knowing that she is not trying to “walk the steps” alone.
The concept might be simple, a ramp to access the outside, but the impact is life changing. Recipients who could only get out of their homes with someone’s assistance can now, because of a “simple ramp”, have the freedom to move in and out of their homes independently and safely.
At LDC, ensuring we are making a difference in our neighborhoods is how we grow as a team and have fun engaging with each other!
